Subject: Drysuit questions
Aquanaut has a deal on some DUI TLS350 SE's at the moment so the shop has
ordered one in for me to try. Unfortunately the suits are only available
in three stock sizes (S, M + L), I'm normally a standard 4 in wetsuits (or
Medium) but from the DUI size chart I suspect I may need a custom suit made
(my measurements are scattered through the range from small to XL). Seem
to be tailored for folks with a more ample frame :-) Will see.

Not having tried a drysuit before I have a couple of questions that would
help greatly in deciding whether to buy a suit when it arrives. Any help
from the list would be greatly appreciated.

1) Fit. Any tips on how to decide if the suit is the right size for me?
I've ordered a Large for the height (I'm 6'1", even this is outside the
stated range but no way am I an XL in anything) but as I say (apart from
shoe size, 10-11) my other measurements range all over the place. I'm not
a bean poll IMO, I'd consider myself of average build (pretty much spot on
the ideal weight for my height). Any tricks to checking for proper fit?
How much room to move should there be and when is a suit way too loose?

2) Pockets. I'm assuming none are fitted. Is it best to get pockets
fitted by the distributor (as I did with the last wetsuit I ordered) or buy
the Halcyon drysuit pockets and fit them yourself? I kept a post by Billy
Williams (I think) from earlier in the year describing how to glue pockets.
Which pockets are best (I know, no zippers (I dive in sandy environs and
know they jam))?

3) Socks. What is normally worn on the feet under a dry suit? So I know
if the boots are the right size.

4) Hoods. Any brands/models suggested? I haven't dived with a hood for
some years, I use either 5mm or 3mm arctic vests with wetsuits (depending
on the season, but always have something on my head).

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon
