Hi Jan,

Very well said, IMHO.

Take care and dive safe, Scott

Some weeks it's just not worth the effort to gnaw through the restraints and
scramble up out of the pit.
Too many of you are caught up in the delivery of the message. No
one rejoices when another diver dies. The fact is, however, that this
death was preventable. The diver who died followed many ill-advised
practices. While it was his choice in a free society to do so, his death hurts
all of us.

It hurts his family, his friends, his dive buddy, the equipment
manufacturer of the equipment he was using, and those of us who want to be able
to access dive sites without restriction in the future.

If Eric had listened and dived more safely, he would not be a statistic
now. Wake up! There are safer ways of diving. Why choose to
take extra, un-needed risk?

I live in South Florida. I saw Eric's posts a few months ago, and
made the decision then that I would not knowingly dive on the same boat if he
was on it. I did not know him other than from his posts. I would
not dive with anyone with that attitude. I won't dive with his same ocean
buddy either, or with a number of others I've seen post here at various times.

Do I lack dive buddies? No. I choose my buddies carefully,
especially for technical and cave dives.

I want a buddy who will actually be a buddy, that means that we swim or
scooter together. That means they are watching me during the dive, even
if I pause to take a photo. That means I watch them. It means we
plan the dive together and we execute it together. It means they have the
right attitude and the proper equipment. It means we are familiar with
each other's equipment.

You've heard these things over and over in Trey's posts and in many
others. It is a safer way to dive. Sure, there are no laws that
force you to dive this way, but I notice the death toll keeps adding up on the
side of those who insist on diving solo, and diving using practices I consider
unsafe.

In the interest of preventing your death, consider changing your mind on
these practices and adopting a safer approach.
