Just came from an equipment meeting...
The Drowning Accident Rescue Team is looking at new
equipment. Our first purchase will be drysuits (shells).
We need the following:
1) Protection from Hazmat => Oil, gas, brake fuel, etc from
vehicles that have "mistakenly" entered the water".
Chemicals from irrigation, plane fuel, etc.
2) Protection from Biological contaminants => Blood, organic
wastes, hepatitis, etc.
3) Protection from the physical environment => puncture
resistant (black water diving in an environment full of
sharp metal, wood and glass).
4) Something that can be decontaminated easily => We have
been told that trilaminate suits are harder to decon
than vulcanized rubber because the nylon weave can trap
and hold biological contaminants. Also, any suggestions
on what to use for decon (Chlorine and water?)
If there is anyone out there that has been diving in really
nasty stuff, and is prepared to swear by the suits that they
have used, please e-mail me. We discussed buying some of each
type of suit. Any comments on what type of hazmat/bio environment
each suit is best suited for?
Also, if there is a better environment for this discussion, can
someone please point me there?
Last but not least, I understand DUI makes both types of suits.
They can probably comment on which environment the suits are
best utilized in. Does anyone know of any other manufacturer
out there that makes both types of suits?
Thanks in advance...
