Sean, ENSO is the so called "El NiƱo", a mesoscalar inflow of tropical (warm, nutrient poor) water which pushes off the upwelling of cold (nutrient rich) waters off the peruvian coast. It changes climate, weather conditions, rain fall, primary productivity in both sea and land, recruitment in fish, etc. The NAO is the north atlantic oscillation, a seesaw in atmospheric mass between the subtropical (high) and the polar (low) which implies changes in windvectors, gigantic eddies, etc. Cheers, ---- aldo.solari@ho*.se* (fisheries biologist) Home page, www.ccbb.ulpgc.es/fish-ecology/solaris ---- ststev@un*.co* STS> Aldo, what are ENSO and NAO?
