Yes, it is focusable - EE would not make one that is not - and the 18 is better for cave mostly because that is what most people are going to have and you want the same strength light as your buddies, or they will not see you over their own light and have to keep making sure you are there. -----Original Message----- From: Simon L Hartley [mailto:shartley@sc*.ed*.au*] Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2001 2:14 AM To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Re: Choosing a new light (HID 10 vs 18, etc) Importance: High Thanks to everyone who replied to my post, very much appreciated. Lots of great info. Looks like Halcyon HID is the way to go for me. I'm still undecided on the 10 vs 18 watt question though. Without seeing them side by side it's hard to judge (same problem I run into with most gear choices in my neck of the woods (back woods that is :-) )). I'm yet to find a situation where having more light was a problem (with the possible exception of silty water where you can get lots of back scatter, but it sounds like the HID cuts through milky water better than halogen). On the other hand a longer burn time (without extra bulk of a larger canister) may be handy when traveling or just for safety sake. Plus, as I said I'm not too keen on spending big bucks right now if with a possible drysuit purchase on the horizon. One specific question that did arise though. Do the 10 watt HID lights have a focusable beam? If they don't is this a major drawback?
