Paul,
I live in Auckland and am part of a DIR team...
We dive most every weekend and charter the best boats for our personal
use.
The sites we visit are whatever is the best available on the day and also
arrange liveaboards for extended range(beyond a day trip capacity).
Some favorites are;

Pinnacles off the Aldermans Islands
Pinnacles off the Mercury Islands
Mokohinau Islands
Poor knights...one of the top ten in the world according to"Jaques Cousteau"
Cuvier Island for beautiful scenic or live ordinance recovery(high explosive
heads hacksawed off u/w, remove cordite, defuse detanators on surface),sounds
loose but they make great doorstops(VBG)

Visibility is anywhere from 20-35 meters
Temperate diving 14-22C(winter to summer),drysuit material...
unique enviroment many "native species" only found in N.Z.
Drop me a line and come on over, we'll look after you.

Kind Regards

Paul Berry

I live here :)) The good places to go are Alderman Islands - very clear,
lots
of crays, Poor Knights - awesome!, Three Kings Islands - if you are after
gold
and silver, Cuvier, Mercury Islands, Goat Island - more like a soothing
dive.
For training Lake PuPuke (an old volcano) is a nice place - down to 74
meters :)

Gene
