Thom,

I would suggest that cost is a pretty poor reason not to go to an iso =
manifold. You can get the Sea Elite for only $169.96 from Divers Supply. =
If you don't use a manifold you will need 2 SPGs which will be about =
1/2 the cost of the manifold. So you are only talking about $100 =
difference.

The advantage of the ISO manifold is that it will, in the case of a =
regulator free flow, allow you to save and utilize your entire gas =
supply by shutting down the offending post. In the case of a tank to =
valve o-ring failure, you will be able to isolate 1/2 your gas and use =
it.

Independent doubles increase task loading significantly by requiring you =
to switch back and forth between tanks every 300-500 psi so the pressure =
remains balanced so in the event of a failure you still have somewhere =
near half of your remaining gas in the other tank. It further =
complicates matters when it comes to your long hose, which most use on =
the reg that they pass off to their buddy for an OOA situation. Since =
you are switching back and forth, long hose, short hose long hose short =
hose, when your buddy has an OOA what do you give him, what's in your =
mouth or what is parked????? Or do you use 2 long hoses???? If so how =
do you store them??? In an OOA emergency this should be autonomic =
response, not require a decision.

  Subject: Doubles?

Being new to tech diving and looking at different gear configurations =
I have developed a question? If I go to doubles for deeper and longer =
dives but do not use a manifold (cost) what are the major drawbacks? I =
would assume the major draw back would be if the right tank and the left =
reg went bad at the same time? not being to isoloate one tank off and =
using a different reg? Would I assume this would be an acceptible risk =
while diving with a buddy. Or are their other reasons that I am just not =
seeing at the moment.
