offlist relpy: > The padi wheel was a useless stupid piece of cr%p in my opinion. Can you > believe that the word "Buehlmann" is nowhere mentioned in any of the PADI > Textbooks? Actually I can believe that quite easily, otherwise; Firstly, it requires the Instroketors to have some knowledge of what that strange kinda foreign sounding word is ... and to whom it refers Secondly, it requires Joe Sixpack trainee diver to understand what the hell the Instroketor is talking about: "Gradients? ... you mean like a hill underwater ?" > Its such a big secret that even the PADI instructors don't know > whit is...:-) As above. I don't think the average PADI instructor cares to take time away and do the extra reading/research to put this stuff in a meaningful perspective, and DSAT are probably realistic enough to know that they can't pump it into them. To be fair, this is not an exclusively PADI thing, it's representative of that part of the rec scuba market, of which PADI has the Microsoft-like share. SDI (the rec arm of TDI) is much worse for example. Whereby in their advertising for OW courses here in Australia they TRUMPET the fact that because they are a 21st Century outfit (sic), they no longer teach those dumb, hard to use, old fashioned tables .... but rather exclusively use computers. Deco tables and theory are only referred to during the course in "historical" terms Now THAT's what I call progress ! ;-) It's like a friggin limbo competition ... the lower someone sets the bar, the more some other idiots want to come out and beat it. Thank god for GUE heading in the opposite direction. Now, if we could just raise US$100m or so and roll out some more GUE schools and Instructors outside of Florida ! ... whattya say George, will you look after the capital raising ? <g> ************************************************************************** PS: I'm not going to get into a online pissing competition with PADI Instructors who want to post telling me that they're not all bad. I know there are good and bad in all forms of training. I'm talking about the Instroketors ... and let's face it, even the good ones are STILL deciding to work within the PADI system. So save your fingers on the keys, it's been done to death and no correspondence will be entered into on that particular Jihad <g> ************************************************************************** regards *** dean laffan real world productions melbourne, australia ph +613-9419-3966 Mobile - 0418-525-315 It said on the box: 'Requires Windows 95 or better' ... so I bought a Mac ! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
