Folks,

This isn't that complicated.

A Patent (open) Foramen (the name of the guy who first described it, I
guess) Ovale (hole) is one flavor of Atrial (a chamber of the heard)
Septal (the part of the heart that separates the two atria) Defect
(hole).

In other words, there are many types of ASDs of which a PFO is one.
