To a certain extent, you are correct. 99% of the folks you see at Ginnie
(The Redneck Riviera) are abject morons. I never saw a cage, helmets,
headmount lights, or a cobra guard until I went to Ginnie. I also never saw
a fat bastard on an Aqua-Zepp until Ginnie. Wow. There are a few
exceptions, but they are easily identifiable, i.e. they're the only ones
that don't look like an underwater flea market. Most of the idiots there do
"picnic table penetrations", where the distance of furthest penetration is
measured starting at the picnic table where the fat ass set up his gear.
500-1000 feet is then added for good measure, to inflate egos and impress
the local lovelies. The typical whale will do a 30 minute dive to the lips,
leave a glory marker, then deco for an hour and a half and call it a 2 hour
bottom time. Then it's back to the truck to crack open a beer and
pontificate to anyone who will listen about the time he laid 1/50th of a
dive rite red reel worth of line into a dead-end alcove. (Which was
subsequently removed by the next sensible person to swim by) In summation,
don't confuse anything you see at Ginnie Springs with real cave diving.
Then again, the scenery during deco can be interesting when a bunch of
sorority honeys are swimming in the run.

OK, sorry. Enough cave stuff on techdiver. I had a half-day off, and
couldn't help myself.

Duane
