Re: Ear problemsWell I did make it to the DOC today. He is a general =
internal medicine MD I couldn't get into an ENT for a few days unless I =
was referred. My doctor said I have a very small pin hole in my tympanic =
memberane and it is a reddish color which could be from the stress or an =
infection so he started me on an antibiotic and decongestants. Jim as =
far as the problems with your drysuit maybe you should try diving it wet =
I have not had any problems there. As far a my mask well it floods often =
and there has been occasions that it gets ripped off. I use a different =
mask for diving in current it fits me better and seems to be less =
affected by the current. THe draw back is I can't equalise if I wear =
gloves so i have to go with out. THe dive that I was doing actually =
starts with a reverse flow of current in a back eddy and about half way =
out to the wreck along a steel cable the current switches with the =
current reaching an average of 8 knots near the stern of the wreck. on =
the dive you spend most of it in the shelter of the wreck. However on =
the other side of the river is a wreck called the Tremble. This wreck =
doesn't have the luxury of a back eddy to situate yourself in or a cable =
to giude you to the wreck and I have at time aborted dives right after I =
jumped in because of mask flood and reg problems. if this happens we do =
a superman dive to the exit point. Just fly down the river and pick up =
lead on the way. This is fun because the resident sturgeon normally ride =
along next to you. If you don't belive me of the average current speeds =
in the river this time of year ask any boater from Port Huron MI.

Yes, whenever I scuba dive while attached to a ski boat I have the =
same symptoms. It will be interesting to see the answer to this =
question. Also when I hit 5 knots my mask gets torn off and my drysuit =
is ripped from my body. So by the time I hit 8 knots I am naked as a =
jaybird and holding by breath as best I can with gallons of water being =
pumped into my lungs. Anybody have a solution to this problem as well?

I was doing a routine dive to about 55 ffw with about 8 knors of =
current. Upon surfacing I got a reverse squeeze. I descended and tried =
to come up slower but my ear was still hurting and I could hear it =
gurgle. I was never able to get it to adjust and had to finally surface =
through the pain. Since then I have had some pain in my ear and a =
dulness in sound. If I try to clear my ear it gurgles and pops and =
hisses. I assume I either stretched or perforated my eardrum and the =
gurgling noise is fluid and mucus inside my middle ear. This has been 2 =
days and the pain is subsiding (exceot for when I got the bright idea of =
using alcohol to dry it out) but it still feels full and is making =
gargleing noises. I was supposed to dive this weekend is a week normally =
enough to allow this to heal or would I be pressing my luck. Any =
suggestions?=20
