You asked for rationales, you got em.  You want reasons too, here you go:

1) Smaller profile

2) Reduced weight

3) Decreased drag

4) Readily available

5) Reduced space requirements 

6) KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid

If you're diving doubles for dives that only require a single, you're doing 
it wrong. If you're diving a single with a K-valve, you'd be better off with 
an H-valve.
