This is an sad but true point Patrick. Most people who train technical divers are also dive shops, who have preferred arrangements with gear suppliers. Their owners and instructors are often not capable of giving an unbiased gear recommendation because of these relationships. In a perfect world, the training would be totally divorced from selling the gear allowing the trainers to say "this reg sucks because ... " or "these wings are dangerous because ....."
