Well, now that you start giving specifics it seems that you illustrate that you do know nothing about DIR or what you think you know was taught to you incorrectly. Picture this. The long hose leads from the first stage down the right side next to the wings, then under the light cannister which is on the right hip (or if you are diving without a light for some odd reason it is tucked into the harness belt at the right hip), up across your chest over the left shoulder, around the BACK of your neck and over the right shoulder to the second stage in your mouth. So, if "someone yanks it from behind" then what happens is the reg is pulled out of your mouth (freeing it for the out of air diver to use) or the hose across your chest is pulled if you manage to hold the second stage in your mouth. To strangle someone with the long hose (when rigged correctly DIR) is virtually impossible unless "someone" takes the hose across the chest and wraps it around the diver's head and pulls. From experience, in a panic situation an out of air diver will react quite predictably and go for air, either to the surface or the reg in the nearest diver's mouth.
