Cobber ain't a bad bloke at all when you get to know him. When I first
"met" him I thought as you do and, now, stuff I've written is even on
his website.

Actually the longer you are here, the easier it becomes.

By now you've, no doubt, read Trey's very informative (warts and all)
post on this.

Garry Maffatone (sp?)? Another convoluted idiocy that met its match/maker.

OK. Ignoring the fact that I do not consider myself remotely in the
same league as the Treys of this world.

Laddie, if you think that this list is poisonous today, you'd (pardon
me) wet yourself if you'd been here, say, three years ago. Believe me.

INDEED!!!

Snip.

That's a hard one. This list takes no prisoners, as you have also
learned. Me, I'm usually pretty damn polite, maybe that's in my
nature, dunno, certainly I don't "flame". Recently I even "translated"
one of Trey's posts into, shall we say, somewhat more conventional
language which even seemed to be accepted. I live to tell you that I
SWEATED on what reaction I would get, yet the list can be surprisingly
benign sometimes.

It probably depends on how sensible your post is.

Uhhh, with the greatest of respect, that observation is bullshit for
any number of reasons including the fact that such an esoteric, arcane
list is not exactly Numero Uno as of interest to the people you have
alluded to.

Norm, not having been here for any length of time does not really
qualify you to provide such advice. Note, I say _qualify_. You do not
have the experience (of this list) to provide such advice.

This is because largely, very largely, the petulant whingeings of the
newcomers who know no better and haven't bothered to consult the
archives before wearing out their fingertips on their keyboards in
"righteous indignation" have been heard, and dealt with, countless
times such that most who do the hearing and dealing are heartily sick
of it. Repetition DOES get to be thoroughly boring.

Yes there are some here who get seriously criticised time and again.
This has, however, been happening, consistently, with perhaps
increasing venom, for considerably more time than the odd few weeks
you might have been here. I suggest that these people simply do not
learn, probably/maybe do not want to learn, the hard lessons in diving
that have been presented to them time and again. No wonder that the
people doing the criticising are getting frustrated.

I was initially going to send this to you privately, but then decided
that perhaps (some of) the rest of the lurkers/newcomers might be
interested in my perspective to your post.

Cheers,

Christian
