I have a problem with the chamber people claiming that 90% of the people they treat are using computers. I would bet if you go back in there records before dive computers (if the chamber was there and if they have the records) you would see that 90% of the people they were treating were using tables (the other 10% using luck and other methods). Just because 90% of the people being treated are using computers doesn't mean that computers are causing people to get bent. It may just mean more people are using computers (which is I suspect the case). The following is hear-say, but I would like comments on it. I have heard that computers actually can lower cases of the bends as many of them have very conservative ascent rates built in. This makes sense to me, especially at the shallower depths. I would also like to add however that just because the computer "says" you can do it doesn't mean that you can. Keep in mind that it is just a model. A model that hasn't had many of it's envelopes boundries tested (i.e. things like saw-tooth diving). Anyway, just my $.02 worth. Alan -- Alan Stellpflug alans@ge*.co* (415)225-3357
