Subject: Re: Green or Blue
Yes, Manos, the green is due the plankton concentration. This
phenomenon is called "eutrophication" and is due the nitrogen
(nitrates and nitrites) and ammonium runoff from land to the sea;
nitrates  and  nitrites  are  widely used in agricultural fields;
also, it may depend on other kind of leckage of organic matter
into the sea (wasted waters, etc.): this nitrogen generates
plankton "blooms" (rapid population increase) and the water
becomes green. In Northern Europe (such as in the Baltic Sea) the
water is always so except a few days during the later summer.

The blue pictures were taken at higher depth and the blueish tone
depend on the light: blue and ultra-violet wavelengths penetrate
deeper than red into water. If you do not use filters to
compensate the color balance, all of the pictures/videos you take
at 35-40 and deeper will be blue.

When the sea water is poor in plankton (like in Canary Islands),
it is transparent.

All i all, Manos, if you want good viz come to the Canary islands
but HEY! dont you forget the trimix at home!!

cheers,

       Aldo
