Well, I had planned to go diving on the Triple Crown tomorrow morning. This is a 240 to 260fsw dive on a large intack wreck. Was looking for a bottom time of 20 minutes, was mixing my gas this evening when my buddy called. He was scarred "shitless" and proceeded to explain that he was calling the dive due to the fact that he had just had an explosion while mixing gas at home. Apparently he had a HP bottle of air and a low pressure cyclinder of pure O2. He was adding air to the O2 through an equalizer whip to get EAN 80 when the "silicone" O ring came out of the yoke and the explosion occurred with flames shooting everywhere burning his hand in the process. He had been taught by the late, great Sheck who apparently was less concerned about O2 cleaning and gas handling than were my teachers. It just goes to show you that you may be able to beat the odds for years, then.... Guess we all need to be careful; he sure will be in the future !
