However these logistics do require bottom divers to function as a team witch seems to be some what of a pipe dream around here. thank you for the inelegant post I hat sifting through all the bs here to find one. cheers Ken Bingo! but as you say, relies on a team approach. Once the wreck has been decided (may have to deviate with sea state etc - but obvoiusly not deeper than the original plan), buddy pairs work on their individual schedules. And KNOW what time they will hit the surface (to the minute) All the buddy pairs outline shedules are put onto a master sheet for the Skipper (he is part of the team yes?) Along with the times, what markings each DSMB has. Mine has a big 'D' letter made up of yellow duct tape (which is *very* visable on an orange bag.) Each diver has a bag with markings, so the skipper can tick off he has EVERY diver & knows where they are during deco. As a Skipper, you can tell if a bouy dosn't have a diver under it - it is Mr Floppy on the surface. At this point, one would be scouring the sea around the shot for the yellow that the diver WILL be deploying. Back to the Master schedule: We typically have one of the team acting as a Dive Marshall & is the interface between the divers and the Skipper. The Marshall examines the schedule & determines the running order of the pairs into the water, so that as a team, everyone is back on the surface at the same time. This could never be acheived with team members using Tom Foolery such as dive computers. You could try and ask "what time will you be back on the surface" but would get the reply "when my computer clears" :-( Obviously unacceptable when playing as a team. As for returning to the 'shot' - your 'up-line' no. Which makes for a much more enjoyable dive, as you don't have to worry about 'getting back' & see more of the wreck for you buck. Typically one of the buddy pairs would shoot a DSMB from the bottom & the other, mid water. As the tide turns after the 'slack' period, it is important for the skipper to see the bags at the appointed time (he knows the BT & when each pair went in) Hence my previous comment about being able to deploy a 'yellow' up my existing line (to indicate 'please drop a 6m oxygen bottle to me) The skipper know who he is dropping it to (the bag marking) The bottle has a large bouy, 6m (20') of line & a O2 stage) knots could *possibly* jeopardise this system & are avoided. I reload my reel after a diver, so that I have maximised the chances of a jam-free deploy the next time. All requires pre-planning, but the safety of the whole dive, for all of the team (inc. the Skipper) goes up multi-fold. cheers, Dave regards, Dave -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
