Phew, ScottBonis@ao*.co* wrote: (Your post snipped entirely) Preample: Trey, as you state, always calls a spade a spade. Tom Mount and others you refer to in your post are, as you state, pioneers. End Preamble. So what about, as just one example, my personal hero Hans Hass? He who, decades before you were born, I'm guessing here but it was the forties of the last century when he used O2 Draeger Rebreathers to depths we would consider suicidal today? Yep, he's still alive, as is his gorgeous wife. Hass, rather than Cousteau, is often attributed as the father of "sport diving" (I personally HATE that term), especially in Europe. Oh, but Hass has never promulgated these devices to these depths, has never gone on record as diving deep on air (he surely did, even to make the hair stand on end of the people that do/have done that today) and he ALSO is still alive to tell the tale. Mostly he did these things innocently, not knowing the consequences. At the tender age of 90+! Scott, do you get the picture? It doesn't matter what someone MAY HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. It simply means that they were the _innocent_ pioneer. What matters is what they are doing NOW! And if some person is NOW promulgating something which we know is wrong ... well. I contend that the people (maybe not all of them) that you are defending have not, or are not, moving with the knowledge since gained as quickly as they should. That's what, I would have thought, Trey is all about. Trey is trying to drag these people, possibly kicking and screaming, into the real world. Just because they have a nice title such as CEO and an "organisation" behind them (in other words they've made their living from this) ONLY means that they are trying to protect their turf. Turf protectors, sooner or later, miss out. Sooner or later there are ALWAYS stronger predators out there. I point out that this equally applies to GUE. Trey has no turf to protect. That is why I, and I'm sure many others, respect him rather than those you are suggesting. Cheers, Christian -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
