Jim, this is typical Tom - known him for years and nothing ever changes. Luckily, we now have GUE that really teaches people about decompression , among other things, and people like yourself who make the correct information available to all, and the collective consciousness of these lists which wipe out the marketing efforts of the bs gear, like this piece. Note that Brett Gilliam of TDI wrote an article on one of the dive magazines saying that knowing deco is unnecessary since you can just use a computer. So there we have the wisdom of TDI and IANTD once again in direct contrast to reality, but then there is nobody in either organization who in my opinion had any business talking about anything to do with real diving, since they have nobody who has actually done any, another travesty that is not in evidence at GUE - there the instructors are active players and continuous learners or they get the ax. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Cobb [mailto:cobber@ci*.co*] Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2001 8:21 PM To: Tom Mount; Alan Crew; FLTechDiver@mikey.net; Tech Diver Subject: Re: Trimix Computers Tom- Maybe not but there are plenty of IANTD diveshops out there who would would love to sell some of these high margin pieces of shit and saying what you said below is about as close to a promotion as you can get. Did you purchase yours or was it a promo? I can see absolutely no reason to use a trimix dive computer, and to say things like "Yeah, that's all I use nowadays the VR-3 for all my dives, with some tables tossed in as a afterthought. Oh, yeah and you can use a Nitek 3 nitrox computer for trimix dives, too." Pretty irresponsible statements coming from somebody in your position. And the statement that you have to special order the one with a less conservative algorithm is hilarious. How much you want to bet this "option" cost a few hundred extra? The problem, Tom, is there are knuckleheads out there with more money than brains and they will think that purchasing a piece of overpriced crap like one of these trimix pieces of junk will make them a tech diver. Then when the piece of crap breaks they will have no idea at all of what to. There are also knuckleheads out there who will spend that $1200 on a crappy worthless trimix dive computer when what they really need is proper aluminum stages, a quality drysuit, proper regulators and decent wings. Tom, as I recall you used to stuff the long hose, use bungee wings, use steel stages, dive deep air, etc. Don't make this mistake too. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Learn About Trimix at http://www.cisatlantic.com/trimix/ > From: "Tom Mount" <TOM.MOUNT@in*.at*.ne*> > Reply-To: "Tom Mount" <TOM.MOUNT@in*.at*.ne*> > Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 17:37:22 -0400 > To: "Jim Cobb" <cobber@ci*.co*>, "Alan Crew" <alancrew@ya*.co*>, > <FLTechDiver@mikey.net> > Subject: Re: Trimix Computers > > Jim > IANTD does not have a contract with any manufacture > in anything other than training issues and even there it is just agreements > to provide training programs on whatever it is > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jim Cobb" <cobber@ci*.co*> > To: "Tom Mount" <TOM.MOUNT@in*.at*.ne*>; "Alan Crew" > <alancrew@ya*.co*>; <FLTechDiver@mikey.net> > Sent: Monday, May 21, 2001 8:07 PM > Subject: Re: Trimix Computers > > >> Hey Tom, I thought that IANTD had a contract with abyss to promote the > Abyss >> Explorer, yet here you are promoting the VR 3.
