This is part of the reason the accepted maximum PO2 has dropped over time to its current limit of 1.4 ata for the working protion of the dive. It is also a reason to drop the PO2 of your nitrox mixes when exertion or cold might come into play. Use of Ephedrine based products is also contrainidicated for diving, especially when diving higher PO2 mixes. Sudafed (a decongestant), diet pills, thermogenic products, etc. often contain ephedrine or ephedrine derivitives. These products can increase susceptibility to oxygen toxicity.
