I managed it so it can't be that difficult.  Seriously, the thickness of the
webbing is the issue.  Jim has some pictures on his web page.

Hi guys,

I have changed my crotch straps on 2 of my old Halcyon BP( 1 inch slot) to
the new 2 inch "Shimellian style" soft webbing and don't find it really that
difficult. You might want to smoothen the sharp edges of the slot with file
and sand paper to allow easier passing through of the webbing and later
webbing wear protection. This is the best option in my opinion. Just my 2
cents.
