Joe, Comments below... Chris Elmore PalmettoSoft Technologies Corp. Has ANYONE ever heard of their "Experts"??? (LONG) > Okay, > (I'm one of the PADI people who think that PADI has no business in the > technical world, so I've been dreading this moment). My concern is that PADI (and others- not to single them out) are driven by profit and will be more inclined to compromise to maximise profits. I believe the global acceptance of GUE as the ultimate technical certification agency comes from their no compromise position. This attracts the most qualified and potentially successful candidates. Compromised/inexpensive training attracts lessor qualified people or, at least, lessor informed people. This, in combination with the unforgiving nature of technical diving makes future accident rates too predictable. The few people I recognize on this list don't inspire any different thoughts. > > Drew Richardson, Senior Vice President PADI Training, Education, Environment > and Memberships. Listed qualifications; 4000 logged dives, experience in > tec deep and cave diving, recompression chamber operation, mixed gas and > enriched air diving and commercial diver training. Member of UHMS, SPUMS, > DAN, EUBS and AAUs. Oh yes, and last but not least he received the 1992 DAN > Rolex Diver of the Year award. "Qualifications", while noteworthy, are not anywhere near unique in techdiving. "Memberships" are simply bought (for the most part) and are virtually worthless to me. > > John Kinsella... has deep EXTENSIVE deep air experience ... This reminds me of the pilot resume we got one time stating that he had experience flying in Hurricanes. So do I but I sure don't put it on a resume. > Karl Shreeves, Vice President, Technical Development. Diving for 30 years, > technical diving almost 10 years. Participated in the Farb Monitor > Expeditions, Project Nohoch, an tthers. He holds the Wakulla Award for 100 > safe cave dives (GEORGE???). The Wakulla award is the NACD equivilant to the NSS-CDS Abe Davis award and has nothing to do with diving Wakulla (or anything else for that matter). > Grant Graves... He's a videographer and director for the > television series Aquanauts. Well, at least they have someone experienced in selling "image". Wonder where that expertise will be put to use?! > Jill Heinerth... Paul Heinerth, Core members of the Wakulla2 team.(The anthesis of the WKPP) They had 24hr. access to Wakulla for three months and did nothing significant other than present a glossy image to the press. Claims of "world record" activities seriously questioned by people familiar with the dives (I'm being kind here). Three month safety record: one toxed and air evacuated, one (Nobel prize winner in physics) dead. Both caused by lack of adhering to fundamental concepts of safe dive execution.
