As a BSAC Advanced diver, in training, I realise that at this time BSAC aren't sanctioning dives on mixed gases. However my Diving Officer, a 1st Class diver, myself and a handful of other divers are interested in the use and availability of mix gas diving in the UK; particularly in Northern Ireland. Having spent 18 months in Canadian I've had to opportunity to attend lectures and discussions in this field, however I've not at this time become aware of a similar situation arising as yet in the UK. I'm posting to the net in order that I might become more aware of a few UK 'statistics' on mixed gases. The diving we'd be interested in would be of the >90m level. Although the majoirity of the dives we feel would become available to us would be in the 70-80m range. Typical dives for the group are, at present on normoxic air, on The Rohan(sp?), The Cumberland, The Santa Maria, The Laurentic, The Archidelles(sp?); their spread from Donegal to Scotland... These wrecks are in the 50-70m range and our typical dive plans see a 15min(say) bottom time with up to 90mins deco. Where are UK mixed gas divers aquiring their fills? What mixes are typically used in the Uk in comparison to the rest of the diving communities Worldwide? Alan R. Parker Portstewart SAC University Of Ulster at Coleraine SAC
