I don't think that you can draw this analogy - unlike MS Windows and Sony Betamax, a rebreather is not a platform for running applications software, and therefore doesn't have to be "the standard". IMO, rebreathers are more correctly compared with aircraft - their operation is controlled by a combination of operator actions and embedded systems, which upon failure could subject the user to serious injury or death. In this light, "moronic designs" will have to compete against well-engineered products on a cost/usability/performance basis. Christina
