Each tank-unit/wrist-unit pair has an ID associated with it. There is some finite number of ID's. A wrist unit only listens to transmissions that contain its ID. If you're diving with a buddy, it would make sense to make sure your units have different ID's. Perhaps this is configurable by the the user? Anyone have one of these beasts?
