A friend of mine forwarded PowerPoint presentation (all Photos) of the recovery of the Solid Rocket Boosters off the Space Shuttle. I had seen some of the pics from the NASA web pages but this was a nice compilation of photos. It looks as though the divers are using a myriad of gear (Doubles, split fins, consoles to name a few), which I don't care to get into a discussion over. Doing further research I obtained a rather good article that gives more details into how the recovery is accomplished. It is noteworthy that the boosters obtain an altitude of about 40 miles above SL and splash back in an ~ square area close to 100 miles. Now someone sent me a clip that showed a Taco Bell raft 40 feet by 40 feet floating in the Pacific and the add said if the CORE of the MIR were to "Ring their Bell" that everyone in the US would get a free taco. Yep, no need to worry about the bookies losing their shirt on this one, I bet even Lloyd's might give insurance, unless the raft floats towards Japan. Well I am getting off my subject... If you would like a copy of the Powerpoint photos and the text describing the operation drop me a private line and I'll send it to you.
