Andrew,

Since you asked, 1) when I wrote the article no one except Jackie Smith =
was making them and he seemed to be rather difficult to reach; 2) you =
can insure you get the proper fit; 3) even though they are now readily =
available through your shop and several others, they are not an item =
found in most dive shops; and 4) some folks would still rather make some =
of their own equipment, remembering back to the "thrilling days of =
yesteryear" when divers made their own knives, weights, weightbelts and =
such. I hail from that era.

All Others:

Since I have received numerous requests for Jim Cobb's web site (which I =
should have included in my first e-mail) here ya go:

The spring strap page is at:
=20
http://www.cisatlantic.com/trimix/fins/sprstrps.htm

Please note on that page several very easy methods to attach the springs =
to the fins either cave line or SS D-rings. Even the mechanically =
un-inclined can handle that.
=20
I have a new design that will be made out of Delrin blocks that I will =
forward to Jim to post upon completion. =20

Lots of other interesting things for the do-it-yourselfer on Jim's =
"Tools" page at:
=20
http://www.cisatlantic.com/trimix/tools.htm
=20
Jim's main page is at:

http://www.cisatlantic.com/trimix/tools.htm

If any one has any questions feel free to ask.

Why waste time making when you can buy them for $40.00 at =

My son (size 13) and I (size 9 & 1/2) have been using Turtle fins =
for two years with drysuit boots. Andy's Drysuit with both the original =
boots (whatever they were) and now with his upgrade of Si-Tech boots =
which are quite nice. The Turtles work out fine and are great with =
spring straps. See Jim Cobbs Trimix site for an EXCELLENT article on how =
to make your own spring straps (I wrote it).

I was looking to buy ScubaPro Jet Fins. Since I have to buy them =
by mail, I wrote to a dealer in order to determine what size I should =
order to fit my U.S. size 13 feet and a dry suit. This is the response =
I got:
      =20
"I would recommend the Turtle Fin if your feet are size 13 and you =
are wearing a drysuit.
The Jet fin only comes in 2 sizes and the XL is barely big enough =
for a size 12 in a drysuit.
The possible exception is if you are wearinga DUI suit with those =
tiny boots, but even then
a 13 is going to possibly not fit into an XL jet."
      =20
What is your evaluation of Turtle Fins? Are Turtle Fins DIR and =
can they be fit with spring heel straps, or is there a better =
alternative.
      =20
      Thank you.
      Alex
