I generally try to stay out of these kinds of post, but since my name keeps
popping up and I feel I should at least explain why I use 104's.
First, I also have a set of LP Faber 95's, I like them and they work for
most dives above 280ft, I have used them on dives to 350ft, but found that
when things go south for even a short period of time gas consumption
increases and the safety factor is not there. 95's are also short, without
boots they are hard to get into the harness and you have to slide down and
then up into the rig, same for getting out of when diving off a boat. They
weigh ALMOST as much as the 104's, how can that be you say, because I have
a Vee weight in them, so I don't need a weight belt or some other bullshit
attachment.

The 104's I like the best for long or very deep dives, the gas is there
should I need it, it is easy to get into the harness as the height is just
right without the boots. The rig is over all very balanced, I feel like
part of the rig. They are heavy as hell moving around, I use a hand truck
if it is far, you will not find a better balanced set of doubles than the
104's. I totally dive dry now and use alum stages, I have no problem
getting off the bottom even beyond 400ft, I will never wear a rig that even
gives me the option to ditch weight to get up, not being able to do my
required stops on those dives would kill me popping to the surface. I have
other options to get up and maintain proper depth for my stops.
Don, I know you are working on a learning curve to progress at a safe pace,
I agree with that mind set. Once you have gained the experience to ease
your mind on this subject and purchased a drysuit (which you need here
anyway)and suitable doubles, your gonna wish this list didn't have an
archive. ;-)
