I am 6'3", and in my wetsuit days I wore acres of thick neoprene and I never needed more than 20# of total negative weight. Yes I did have to swim to get to 20' but once there I was neutral. And water temp has nothing to do with anything, you are not more buoyant in 40F vs 50F, the usual temp around here for late winter early spring diving, it is purely dependant on your rig. Sorry, Scott, your story does not carry water.
