One caveat that should be mentioned rearding creatine is that it can cause
cramping during some types of activities, primarily endurance events. I found
this out the hard way during last year's biking season when I would experience
sudden and extreme cramping at about mile 60 or so of 100+ mile rides. The
usual culprit is insufficient hydration but I knew that wasn't the case here
since I am always careful to hydrate properly. This happened about three rides
in a row, all at about the same mileage, before I finally made the connection
and once I went off creatine the cramps never happened again. So, now I do not
use creatine during the summer biking season. There is no question that it is
effective for anaerobic activities like weightlifting and I use it for that
purpose during the rest of the year. I have even found that it's beneficial
for short rides (<40 miles). Maybe someone else on the list can explain the
physiology of creatine-induced cramping?
