Actually both can be considered correct. Scott seems to have a better grasp on the history of dive gear than most, and that is where the disagreement stems from. This is a particularly confusing subject in light of the fact that these two valves (the K and the J) got their names from their catalog reference, yet other valves which came along later got their names because of the their SHAPE (the Y and the H). Since the original K was a valve for a yoke reg, that can be defended as the true K valve. But, no dedicated letter name for a single DIN valve was ever introduced AFAIK. The K designation just kind of drifted over to them and so any distinction between the two was lost. 99.999% of divers don't know there ever might have been any distinction. Anyway, the current state of affairs is that there is no difference what kind of outlet exists on a particular valve, as long as it is a single outlet valve offering no reserve capacity feature, it is commonly referred to as a K valve. Kind of an interesting side note, Dive Rite includes in the group of K valves a left or right valve from a manifold with a plug stuck in the end of it a K valve: http://www.diverite.com/products/gas/std_valv.htm Maybe we should start calling DIN K valves "N" valves due to their connection and manifold valves with plugs "T" valves because of their shape.... JUST KIDDDDDDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ray Nixon __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
