Subject: Re: rebreathers
I just bought a new Halcyon and have two more coming. I also have two of =
the old ones.
Let me say this first: I need rebreathers, or I would not have one any =
more than I would keep a pet alligator or a tube of the Ebola Virus.
Having said that, take a look at the rebreather industry. Halcyon is =
made by a company that has been around for long time and makes many =
excellent products, and has a huge business that is well financed and =
backed.
The rest of these guys are not so fortunate. Cis Lunar, for instance , =
has just recently thrown in the towel is not in business any more. You =
can not even get parts. There are some guys who refurb the old military =
MK15 rb's out there, but I do not know how much into it they are these =
days. There are a bunch of companies that keep TRYING to make =
rebreathers and many that TALK about rebreathers, but nothing seems to =
materialize but vaporware and bullshit. There are a whole lot of =
promises, including K2 and others , but nothing with any track record. =
There is the Buddy Inspiration made by AP Valves in England, a decent =
company, but then we'd have to talk track record and that is for them =
like pissing in the punch bowl.
=20
You may want to ask this question: what rebreathers have the best =
record and what rebreathers hold all the records, like distance in a =
cave, or longest dives, or most of both of the above.
The first question you really need to ask yourself is, "Why do I want =
this, and is that a good reason?"
If you just want a nice toy to show off on the dive boat or discuss on =
diving lists, call Jill Heinerth or Tom Mouth and give them a bid on the =
Cis Lunars they got stuck with that they can not ever get parts for or =
get repaired again. These are definitely the 12" dick of big mouthery =
and techiness on a dive boat, and I have the manual which I can Xerox up =
for you so you can talk about how the unit SHOULD work if you could get =
the parts. This could be what you are looking for.
Or, you could get the real thing, but you need to go to GUE for training =
and they and Halcyon would have to decide if your reasons for wanting =
this are good enough to get you started, and then you would have to pass =
EE training, which is another story all together. Nobody else is allowed =
to teach these or sell these anymore - Halcyon was not any longer =
willing to take that risk.

Subject: rebreathers
Could anyone give me some insight on rebreathers I'm looking at =
either a Halycon or K2. I would use it for EANx or trimix, if you have =
any more suggestions on different units I would be happy to hear from =
you.

Thank You
