Ron is in today for hip replacement surgery. Ron has blessed us all with wisdom, friendship, truth, sharing and knowledge. The injury to Ron's hip (dysbaric osteonecrosis, the loose translation of the Chinese word for this sickness is "Pain Flower") is directly traceable to his dives at the NEDU. Ron has done half a dozen deep sat dives (850 fsw or deeper), was the first man out in the open ocean below 1,000 fsw on SCUBA (MK10 rebreather), and was one of a very special group of volunteers that developed the early saturation diving protocol. He tested the rebreathers and insulating underwear that the astronauts wore on the moon. Get this: He went to the pain people, and he scored higher than anyone they have ever tested. The docs told him that he is using between 50 and 80% of his mental facilities just dealing with the pain. They told him that he was going to be a new man after the surgery. Lets all put some positive waves into the air for his speedy and complete recovery. Anyone wanting to send him a get well fast card or any other e-mail, please send it to me, I will print them all, and see to it that he gets them.
