Rather than have the rubber rot out and the bands slip, or have the bands raised up from the tanks, I ignore it. Painting helps a little, but the reason I do paint them white is really so that is so that my buddy can easily see me in bad vis or in the dark. The oxidation tends to be self-stopping. The patina of oxidation forms a barrier to further oxidation or galvanic action.
