I have worked out that a pair of these cylinders will be POSITIVELY buoyant by about 4.2kg when EMPTY and NEGATIVELY buoyant by about 2.2kg when FULL. If this is correct it means a great deal of lead will need to be carried on the weight belt to compensate for the positive buoyancy when empty (no backplate). I think about 3.5kg positive if you just look at the cylinders. Don't forget the regs, bands and manifold. What do you mean with "no back plate". Are we talking about the fact that you don't use a back plate? Not recommended. Personally I don't use ANY lead/weight with this setup, just my Pro 6 canister (warm water-3mm wetsuit) Does anybody know the exact weight/volume and dimensions of these cylinders? I think they are generally referred to as an "Aluminium 80". If they are BS5045:Part 3 cylinders they should have a diameter of 204mm and a weight of 16.48kg. Alu80 means 80cft at 3000psi but the real volume will be somewhere around 10.5L Has anybody got any information or had experience of diving doubles in the Red Sea?
