Bob, The choice of backplate isn't as important as the way the harness is rigged and your choice of wing. Decide whether you need a SS or Aluminium plate, and then buy whatever brand is most convienient. Buy some 2 inch webbing, 5 d-rings, 7 weight retainers, a SS weight belt buckle, a little bungee and slap it together and you are set. There are a few web pages that show how to put this together. Pick up a Halcyon wing (it is the best) and you are set. If you don't want the (small) trouble of putting your own harness together, then just order a Halcyon. good luck ss -----Original Message----- From: Bob Cooper [mailto:bob@bo*.fs*.co*.uk*] Sent: December 5, 2000 7:38 AM To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: which backplate? As a soon-to-be-trained wannabe cavern/cave diver, I'm currently putting together a backplate/harness arrangement to replace by Transpac II. I want to use a stainless steel backplate and a one piece harness to carry my steel double 10's and occasionally steel double 12's. Most of my diving is in the UK (ocean). I'm interested in learning about the US style of cavern/cave diving and applying it to my UK wreck diving. The question is - which backplate? Any sensible suggestions would be helpful.
