I'm in the middle of launching a product, and I only have 16 hrs a day to get something done. Richard Roost made and AIR dive on the Gunilda to 260 ft with his Nikon and two SB-103 strobes back in 89. Yes Richard wanted to Pee Pee and he decided that the Navy tables would cover him. George makes these kinds of decisions with his tables and he is Right and the the rest of the world is wrong. Mount has already gone over how the US NAVY picked out the Jesus factors. I understand it perfectly, when I design something it's all work's on paper. It's this dam imperfect world. Borher is a EE and so is Baker, They have all of the background to design tables. They plug number into equations. 30 minutes after coming out of the water Richard had an ouwey in his arm. Forget the melodrama of the weeping boy. Richard was 6'-2" and 240 lb. Standard practice was, If the patient is more than 6 hours away. Try to treat them at the site. Lake Superior is 39 deg F. He was given pain killers and oxygen or do you want me to reference the underwater medical books? The closest chamber was Ste Sault Marie, 11 hours. Mr. Williams has already stated that the chamber at Thunder Bay was at a remote site and they couldn't get him there. We were told it was on a commercial barge at the end of the dock, and had been taken apart. No tickey, No workey. This was only 90 miles away. Mr. Williams has also stated that these deep air divers have some badge on honor about getting bent. No clown, it hurts allot. With this information we went to dinner. A Doctor would say, Nurse give the patient pain killers and advise me of his condition in one hour. The photo that was taken shows who was at the table and and two members of the group were missing. Richard and the diver attending him. We came back, his condition worsen and he was transported. He was treated in the states. Mr. Williams didn't to treat him so he went to the US. The video tapes shows Richard being carried off the boat by the members of the group. Charlie, his brother Bill, Rocky and Ned Basher ( Owner of the Rossport Inn ) can be heard on the tape. There are no fisher folk as Mr. Williams described, helping Richard to the hospital as we were drinking the night away in the local inn. After 3 treatments, Richard refused additional treatments, signed him self out and went home. Since Richard was a PADI Course Director, I think he can make that decision about his condition. Mr. Williams stated that he refused treatment. What's his point, He wasn't going to treat him. The rest of your question will have to wait, I have work to get done and this in not going anywhere. They were just buddies. what a way to treat your buddy! This brings me to another question, Greg. What organization did you hold your open water inst. cert with before becoming a tech inst.? Did you hold any leadership position for any organization? It is my understanding, you went from diver to tech instructor in one leap. Who are you with tdi or iantd? Do you feel this lack of training was a factor in the way you handled the situation when Richard bent himself? I understand that nothing was done for richard roost even as he lay in tears on the back of the boat due to the pain. you taught him well. I understand he was found on the doria stages intact, no sign of struggle, when the recovery divers found him, about 2 years ago. thanks for helping to clear this up Alan Pelstring Alan Pelstring S.
