<snip> 12 on 6 off or else we feel like we have a severe chest cold for days
afterwards. <snip>

<snip> Terry, even the 1.6 of 20 feet will give you a fit in the damage
department, and in fact pure oxygen at any partial pressure seems to have
that effect, it just happens faster and more decisively at the higher
partials, meaning you feel the damage on the spot whereas the lower partials
take until the next day to realize you "burnt" your lungs. <snip>

Thank you for this thread; I don't feel quite so physiologically "abnormal,"
although I may be unusually sensitive to the problem -- I've had to back off
using pure O2 recently, even for short bounce dives (250' max.), because it
irritated my lungs too much both during & after the dive. I WAS applying 5-6
min. hypoxic/helium backgas breaks (~ and they were a relief!), but even
trying to go 12 min. on O2 was very uncomfortable. I followed the 12 + 6
regimen, yet with just 30-40 minutes at 20' & 10', my lungs hurt sharply and
were very sore for 2-3 days afterward. Fortunately, for dives to 170' -
180', I can deco to the surface on 50% O2, which I tolerate well...

This discussion is much appreciated.
