All right, with all those intros flying around, I figure I got to do one myself... I've been diving since '88, and logged 200+ dives so far. My personal 'insanity' is diving at unusual sites, like at Cape Horn, Iceland, remote sites in Baja etc. There's been some deep diving too, did a class in Florida once and since did several 'beyond 130' dives. The reason for signing up on this list is because I like to follow new developments in advanced dive technology and activities. Here's a question I posted a while ago in rec.scuba and got few replies, lets see if this list is any better: Has anyone out there been using those thru-the-water communication systems (underwater telephones) such as the Aquacom from OTS, the USC-101 from Life Technologies etc.? I wonder what the 'real life' limitations of those units are. Are thermoclines, kelp, rocks etc. a problem? What is the range, dependent on conditions? How bad is the speech distortion? Problems with transducer shielding by your body? How do marine animals react to transmissions? Well, if you are using these systems, I'd like to hear from you. Have fun diving, marco --
