This seminar is designed to help those interested in evolving beyond the
"normal" sport diving realm. The seminar will introduce divers to technical
dive equipment, provide information on equipment design to aid n purchase
decisions or modification. Information on training and experience will also
be presented. Technical equipment will be available for examination and
display from basic redundant system to systems designed for cold water deep
trimix diving. Includes 30 page handout on equipment design and extensive
technical diving references.

Shipwrecks of Sanilac Shores Preserve - Jim & Pat Stayer
Beneath the waters of Lower Lake Huron lies a fleet of shipwrecks of many
different shapes and sizes. In the space of a few miles you can visit the
remains of 19th century wooden steamers, schooners, barges, and
turn-of-the-century steel freighters. See them as they looked sailing the
lakes long ago, hear the stories of their sinkings, and view them on the
bottom as they lie protected in the Sanilac Shores Preserve.

Many divers may be familiar with Sipadan Island, located off of southern
Borneo in Indonesia. Less well known is the diving off of northern Borneo
situated in Malaysia. Here, the ripping currents attract huge schools of
fish
and pelagics while topside the sights range from monkeys to a Buddhist
temple.

Dive to the Philadelphia - Dave Trotter
The Philadelphia, a 326 foot steel hulled propeller met her fate on Nov. 7,
1893 in a collision with the steamer Albany. This narrative examines an
outstanding sport diving shipwreck and the tragedy that brought her to the
floor of Lake Huron.

century shipwrecks. the area near Point Traverse is even superstitiously
considered to be a Great Lakes version of the Bermuda triangle. Several

to explore & appreciate our Great lakes maritime heritage in its most natural
& intact setting.

Join us as we step back in time to witness Saginaw River shipbuilding in its
prime. then, we will visit some of those ships which have since become
fascinating destinations for divers today.
Shipwreck Tales: the St.Clair River - Chris Kohl
Over 250 cases of actual commercial vessel sinkings in the St.Clair River
have
been recorded. For scuba divers, the dramatic accounts of the shipwrecks
which remain on the bottom of the St.Clair River offer more personal thrills.
this slide presentation combines marine history and underwater exploration,
with particular attention given to the wrecks of the tug "William Dickenson"
(1923), the steamer "William H. wolf" (1921), an the tug "Monarch" (1934).
Truk Lagoon - 50 Years After - Jim & Pat Stayer
On February 16, 1944 the US Navy launched Operation Hailstorm, catching the
Japanese fleet in Truk lagoon by surprise and destroying over 400 aircraft
and
50 ships. Join us as we venture deep within the hulls of these massive
ships,
filming tanks, trucks, planes and human remains. See how nature has turned
these machines of death into coral gardens abounding with life.
For the Love of a ship - the Sad Saga of the Alvin Clark - Joyce Hayward
Launched in 1846 and lost in 1864, the Clark was discovered in 1967. she
then
went onto become one of the most exciting and yet controversial shipwrecks in
the Great Lakes. A haunting story from beginning to end, the odyssey of "The
Mystery Ship from 18 Fathoms" will long be remembered.
The Whitefish Barge - Dale Purchase
The work barge, Sadie Thompson, was built in the late 1800's and sank when
she
broke her mooring and drifted away while helping to build the Whitefish
Harbor
of Refuge. She was discovered by veteran wreck hunter Tom Farnquist in July
1983. This barge is a great dive with a lot of unusual sights to see.
The Detroit - Dave Trotter and Undersea Research Associates
the Detroit, a 157 foot sidewheel steamer, disappeared 140 years ago on lake
Huron after being rammed by the sailing bark, Nucleus. the wreck was
discovered by David L. Trotter and crew, east of Grindstone City in
Michigan's
thumb region. this multimedia presentation will inform you with artistically
graphic and historically significant information assembled by Undersea
Research Associates during its search and diving activities on "the Detroit".
