Terry,
I have also heard that some people recommend O2 O rings for
concentrations above 22 %. I don't know of any physical evidence to
back up that particular concentration. It seems a bit conservative to
me.
Here at NOAA, we don't use special compatible parts unless the
concentration of O2 exceeds 40%. I don't know who thought up that
particular figure either, but I am not aware of ANY problems that have
ever resulted from non-O2 compatible components being used with
either NOAA Nitrox I or II (EANx 32 or 36).
By the way, the Nitrox tanks and valves are O2 clean with O2
compatible O rings because the Nitrox is mixed right in the tank, with
a higher Po2 than the finished product.
