That is a poor excuse. No time??? If you want a DIR-esque crotch strap - made in 5 minutes - dirt cheap - good for everything but scootering then do what I did. Just take a length on 2 inch webbing, thread one end through the bottom of the backplate. I know, I know. It's tough. The slot is only made for 1 inch webbing. Fold the 2 inch webbing and get it through. Secure it with a weight retainer and if desired, a d-ring. Now with the other end, make a loop big enough to pass the waist strap through, and secure it with a weight retainer, and if desired, a d-ring. You are done! Yeah! So sounds good, but you want to scooter? Just burn holes through the webbing with a heated nail, and secure the weight retainer and d-ring with bolt, nut and washers. I think Cobb has some good pictures depicting this on his site. ss -----Original Message----- From: CaptnDale@ao*.co* [mailto:CaptnDale@ao*.co*] Sent: September 14, 2000 11:26 AM To: mat.voss@t-*.de* Cc: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Re: Tech/Hogathian/DIR diving in chicago area In a message dated 9/14/00 2:21:12 AM Central Daylight Time, mat.voss@t-*.de* writes: << If you really insist on quickconnects, chose stainless steel ones. When I first started diving, our harnesses were fastened with double D-rings and I have never seen one fail. In the intervening years I had almost forgotten about them. I hate plastic buckles and the only reason I am still using one on my crotch strap is that that is the only way the manufacturers supply them. I just have not had the time to make up something better. I have been going back and forth between the DIR style of crotch strap and the off-the-shelf quick release type and have not really been happy with either one.
