But it did not cause a rapid light failure as water just trickled in slowly and I caught it after the dive. Guess I missed the split on the predive check or it gave way during the dive. Same can happen with the light head cord, or the O-ring can get dirty or split a well. So why worry about the boot when there are these other failure points? Probably best to inspect all the components of your light (along with the rest of your gear) so as not to go into the dive with a problem. Of course the problem can always come along after the dive has commenced. Prevention maintenance seems to work and is probably all that can be done with out adding more failure points.
