While some people believe that narcosis is a result of lipid solubility (which also increases with increasing atomic mass) others believe that it may be a result of increasing atomic number (Christina, please don't flame me :)) I am not sure that either one is the **REASON** for this narcotic effect, it is just a property of the individual element. It's size doesn't **cause** the narcosis, but I have read similar arguments that you have stated in this posting, that narcosis has to do with membranes and nitrogen physical (as opposed to chemical) interaction at high partial pressures. This is an interesting topic and I hope to hear from the recognized experts on this one. just my $0.02...Brian...
