A reduction in vital decrement because of pulmonary ox tox takes more than 7 hours at a 1.6 PO2 to develop. Back gas breaks are used to extend the CNS clock not the pulmonary clock. They have no effect on lung function and aren't intended to. Even a beginner with a basic Nitrox cert knows this. If this is your level of understanding, the only "contradiction" here is that you come back alive from your dives. You shouldn't be allowed to snorkel in a kiddie pool let alone get in the ocean if you don't even understand these basic concepts.
