No, this is my point exactly.  Once the situation is so bad that you 
are trying to save your life, sure, you would ditch anything that 
helps, inlcuding your right arm.  What you say makes sense though. 
The light becomes a ditcheable weight once all the other backup plans 
have failed, so at that point you already are in an all out 
emergency.  The only problem is that it doesn't provide much of a 
change (2 pounds in my case).
