Not having time to participate lately , I still have to comment on some DIR related subjects. They are : "Ditching light" "Inflators" "Gas Rules" and the Quest List Short version of the answers: 1) I made up the ditchable light thing - my light is HID with $1000 nicad batteries. Fuck the light. Also, you do not have time for convoluted bullshit that will NOT work underwater. The "battery" comment embarrassed the farm animals , who called me and complained. My bet? You would not even have time to save a light head on an E/O connector if your life was on the line, nor would you care. 2) Inflators - no high speed inflators. They are dangerous and unnecessary,. No air balanced inflators - they just screw up. You do not want a high speed runaway. Only an idiot like OMS would have an argon reg with a high IP , for instance. You need low IP, low speed inflators. You learn to anticipate buoyancy and stay in control at all times - that is called finesse ( New Jersey divers grab a dictionary). These also cause freeze up freeflow in cold water. They also make using the inflator as your third and final backup reg nearly impossible ( next to Bondage Wings in the periodic chart of dive gear stupidity) . 3) "DIR" gas rules for lost deco gas - there are none - it is bullshit. You play or stay home. This is not wheelchair frisbee. Learn about deco and about the effect of different gasses ( ignore the agency crap ), and find out that for most dives, differences are immeasurable, and even for the dives I do, it holds little real consequence. You share when you can, and you use what you have. No big deal. 4) Quest list, DIR quest, help at DIR quest, etc, whatever. Jarrod has put together a huge email list for this stuff and has all kinds of on line resources at your disposal .Quit crying like babies - you guys did not have jack shit of a reliable nature for info until he provided this, so use it and quit complaining. Nobody is obligated to answer questions when it is apparent in the question itself that the asker has no business asking it. "Daddy, where are the fuses for this dynamite, we got rats in the basement?" I wish I had more time to play, but I don't. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
