Hi Cam, I have recently come across two other solutions to the problem of obtaining the connectors used in Makos. In a message dated 8/15/00 7:01:02 AM, J-Scott.Landon@us*.du*.co* writes: << why don't you ask the right people? cut off the two wire trailer plug and replace it with the white hard plastic ones from radio shack. they do not have the wire attached, so you can keep your heavy gauge wire. replace these, because the original ones have been known to melt .... the gavin's have the heavier ones from radio shack. they are white plastic. swap out to those and you're set. >> I think the connectors he's talking about are Radio Shack catalog No 274-151 for the male side and 274-154 for the female side. They accept #14 thru #10 wire and the sides lock together upon mating. Sounds good to me. The other possibility I came across was at, of all places, Wal-Mart. It was in the boating supply section and was called a "Trolling Motor Quick Connect." The manufacturer (Minn Kota, 706 Holly Lane, Minkato, MN 56001, 800-227-6433, www.jwa.com) number is MKR-12. It mates with the existing connector on a Mako and looks like it has around #12 leads, actually a little heavier than the original Mako leads. In my opinion, Scott Landon's advice seems like the way to go. But I just thought I'd pass on the information.
